Just put my deposit down for a 6.0L LQ4 and a 4L60e transmission!! My engine swap dreams are finally coming to fruition.
The folks over at !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! tion were a huge help. They do all the annoying leg work for you including looking in wrecking yards, making sure all of the sensors and accessories are attached and functional, and wiring up a new harness. They then run the motor and send you a video of it running. Now I just need to drive cross country pick up the engine and head to my Dad's garage to do the swap. More on that in May.

Excellent! I love the 6.0 Gen III's.
Someday I'll get my hands on one to build up.

Did something actually go wrong with your inline six engine? They were still I-6 engines in '93, yes?

Nothing is wrong with it as of now other than it is woefully under-powered, guzzles immense amounts of gasoline, and has 270,000 miles on it. And yes its a inline 6 - 4.5L.

I hope to go through Utah on my way back East in August, couldn't get enough of it last time I drove cross country. Have to hit up a wedding in Oklahoma and then going to do old route 66 on the way West.

Fantastic!
What engine management system are you going to use?

I don't think 66 does go through Utah - AZ, NM, TX, OK - the good news is that if I do go through Utah on my way back east in August I'll have the new motor in (fingers crossed) so you'd be able to drive it.

That would be pretty sweet. True story, I was thinking about starting a video series call "cruiser life" this morning. I have a few ideas already and it would be fun to do a video on it.

There's certainly a lot of potential there. At a minimum you could get everyone on Mud to watch!

They provide their own with the engine. I asked for them to load some sort of performance tune. They don't calibrate it to tire size or gearing, which I am a little disappointed about, however if its not running well enough when I'm all done I'll just take it to a professional tuner and have them work their magic.

Please tell me you didn't really get a 4L60e. At very least you should've got a 4L65e. Or are you planning on building it properly anyways? Otherwise it's not going to stand up behind a 6.0L for long...

The engine will be 90% stock so it should only be making 350HP or so. I eventually hope to do a NV4500 conversion on this truck but no one makes the right adapter right now. If it lasts 50,000 miles I'll be plenty happy.

I doubt if you'd get that much out of it... unless you were very gentle, and since you're putting a 6.0 in in the first place I somehow don't think that's the case :). They're rated for around 330-360lb/ft of torque in a stock setup, and all GM's engines - even the 4.8 - were held back by torque management to keep them from lunching the 4l60e. Looking through the forums, quite a few people shredded the 60e within 2 months of swapping a 6.0L in, and some within 2 weeks. Many things have a bit of padding in their ratings, but the 4L60e does not. Seriously, at least spend the time and money to beef it up inside a bit before you drop it in. It'll save you some issues down the line.

Thanks for the advice. I will look into it. The place I'm getting the engine and trans sell level 2 4l60's that they claim are rated to 450 HP for $1750 vs. the $1000 im paying for the takeout stock trans. I'll have to inquire about 4L65 pricing.

270hp and 275 ft. lbs. shredded two of our 4L60Es twice in a 80k miles. They are made of Chinese plastic and butter. I'd do at least a 4L80.

Good input, I think I will do the level 2 4l60 that they sell. $800 is worth the piece of mind. Can't move up to the 4L80 as I already bout the adapter for a 4L60.

Also, when/if you do move up to an NV4500, make sure you get one that has had 5th fixed.

Will do- Advanced adapters has a really good write up for the NV4500 which I have bookmarked but have never read. I assume it discusses this issue.

Congrats on your new engine. That will be a great vehicle when finished.
How was your experience with Pacific Fabrication? Would you use them again?

So far I can say its been good in terms of talking with them and them answering my questions. However, I just put a deposit down and have not picked up any of the components so I really don't know for sure yet. Their prices are about what everyone else is charging for crate engine pull outs and they are close to me so I don't have to pay shipping.

No problem, just remember to ask me that again once I've picked up the engine and I'll give you a full review.

You have interesting stuff going on your rig

It’s not for the faint of heart 10-15 when its all said and done (it cant be done for cheaper in parts but I have no interest in putting in an engine with 80,000 miles on it). If you pay someone to do it add another 10 for labor.
